WWDC 2012: Toned Mac Pro, Revamped Siri, ++iOS & Wilder OSX in the pipeline for Developers!!

Moscone Center at San Fransisco was all set, well decorated blossoming with joy and enthusiasm in the air. Ready to host WWDC 2012 with hordes of Developers congregated from all over the world. Tech giant Apple geared up yet again to surprise the world with its revolutionary upgrades, products & services.
Various speculations were expressed before its start as we have already reported it in our last post. Every other person — Media to Guests to Developers all awaited with bated breath to witness the grand event kick off with the keynote. Sweet music whizzed past the audience twined with full 3G/4G WiFi hotspots around as the magic was yet to unfold sharp at 10AM local time. The centre seated around 6000-8000 audience, who have lined up well before the start of the event.
Siri’s strikingly familiar tone welcomes the cheering audience “Hello, welcome to WWDC! I was asked to warm up the crowd, which will be easy because it’s 75 degrees.”, “I found 396 venture capitalists close to you. Hey, speaking of developers, how many devs does it take to change a lightbulb? None, that’s a hardware problem” were some of the quick and cute jokes cracked by the ultimate assistant Siri that eased the crowd even more. Siri shot friendly arrows at Android & Samsung too uttering “Hey, anyone been working with Ice Cream Sandwich or Jellybean? Who’s making up these names, Ben and Jerry?” & “Has anyone been using the new Samsung? Not the Galaxy, the refrigerator.” Siri ending up with final friendly note “I love you guys, but it’s hard for me to get emotional. Because my emotions haven’t been coded yet.” making way for the recent King of Apple Empire CEO Tim Cook to deliver the keynote.
WWDC 2012 is the 23rd developers conference held by Apple Inc., with attendees from 60 countries worldwide, amazingly all tickets were sold out in just an hour and 43 minutes!! To attend the developers gathered there, Apple has also closed down for the week deploying 1K Apple engineers at the centre and has planned for 112 sessions with 125 hands-on labs as well.
Tim revealed all above amazing facts about WWDC and also flaunted that Apple has 400 million customer accounts on the App Store adding fire to that it also has the largest number of customers with Credit cards than anywhere in the internet. The Apps store is adorned with 650000 apps of which 225k apps are specifically made for the iPad. Crazy numbers also included 30 billion app download milestone and 5 billion dollars that Apple has paid Developers. App store coverage of more than 120 countries.
Next Tim cooked up various videos showcasing stories as how Apple has made a difference in the life of the people world over. Developers of the apps expressing the source of inspiration too. He called them “heartwarming stories” which even included a blind man walking away in a forest guided by the GPS on the iPhone in his hand,
teacher in India teaching students Human Anatomy using an iPad
& iPad+ educational apps helping out disabled students.
Tim in turn thanks all the developers who have worked their imagination, spreading them and hence changing lives. We opine that Apple apps have redefined technology & has added meaning to what people could actually do with their power packed iDevices.
Now it was then time for hardware revelations, Senior VC of Marketing, Phillip Schiller was on stage to make the necessary announcements. Phil talked about the Mac book lineup – Air & Pro which stood out in the crowd branded as the best products that Apple has ever produced. He slowly revealed the magic updates that Apple was planning on introducing included every aspect – power, weight, make, performance and what not.
“Highest Resolution Retina Display with pixel density 2880X 1880, Latest Processors – Ivy Bridge upto 2GHz in i7 Speed, integrated with 8GB of memory with integrated graphics runs 60% faster, whooping 512GB of flash memory that gives 500Mbps of data read speed, nVIDIA Keplar with 1GB of video memory, USB 3.0” Phil’s list of sizzling model specifications went on, churned out shrieks from the crowd at this unbelievably powerful features. Phil took no longer to pull drapes of the ultimate notebook – best of its kind “The Next Generation MACBOOK PRO” packed with all features one can think of. Now it was OSX time – updates on the best desktop OS ever, Apple Senior VP of Mac, Craig Federighi was up on stage for the further proceedings. Unveiling OSX Mountain Lion, Craig described it as their 8th Major release of OSX – with the power of Unix clubbed with the simplicity of Mac also having 60 million users worldwide – tripled over the few years. He also emphasized on the major advancements in the iCloud which skyrocketed in recently with 125 million reg. users. Mountain Lion was said to have 200 new features as Craig also said it had 3 great new Apps – Messages, Remainders & Notes. He also introduced new SDK for Keynote, Pages,etc. Craig demonstrated live sync of the documents on his phone to the desktop using cloud.
Craig showcased major improvements in the Notification Center – all apps posting notifications & ease of access, a super improved Safari built with the “Fastest JavaScript Engine” in the whole planet also encasing an unified search field & gesture Tab Navigation.
A new unique introduction was “POWER NAP” feature that enables the Mac to be up to date even while it is sleeping, App Store updates, Mac OS updates, and backups while it sleeps. It automatically refreshes data, totally silent, goes easy on battery, and it’s compatible with recent MacBook Airs and our new MacBook Pro with Retina Display as well. AIRPLAY Mirroring was also improvised as said. Game Center Support, Mac to Mac & iOS to Mac enabled which Microsoft even failed once with XBox. Mountain Lion Upgrade for $19.99.
Now it was time again for Apple’s phenomenal mobile OS announcements – iOS. Senior VP of iOS, Scott Forstall took the stage next to present the 200+ new & improved features of the most advanced mobile OS – iOS 6. He presented Stats that clearly defined Apple has sold 365 million iOS devices till March & 80% of customers had the latest iOS 5 installed. Scott also cleared what cracking updates that the iOS 6 had in store like the great “Facebook Integration” into Phone contacts, updates, notifications & photos & introduction of the great app “Passbook” – One place store for all tickets & passes. “Apple Maps” – clearly pushing down Google Maps to the grave, a beautiful mapping function with 3D views as well called “FLYOVER” – 3D views of major cities worldwide & turn-by-turn navigation. One major announcement was about the all revised & revamped version of 8 months old Siri who has learnt a lot about Sports & Restaurants in the meanwhile according to words of Scott!! As Scott asked,”Who is taller, Lebron or Kobe?“, Siri answers “Lebron James appears to be slightly taller” with all the stats about the player on screen, amazing!! To add as a dessert Scott revealed that loving Siri would find home in iPads as well in iOS 6 update, a great news indeed. Now Siri can also help in launching Apps and in navigation, finding gas stations on the way and calculation time integrated with Maps. iOS 6 introduces “Eyes Free” driving for leading car brands too.
Another most important Trump Card in Apple’s deck that can checkmate other brands forcing them to compromise – I call it the social working effect “GUIDED ACCESS” – A revolutionary App that guides Blind people to lead a near normal life by helping them find directions & routes using GPS. It also help students suffering from “Autism” learn & grow. Now this definitely scores iOS 6 giving it the final winning edge.
Some developers & technosiasts were definitely disappointed as Apple didn’t announce any updates or SDK for Apple TV, but still the sole discretion of the act lies with Apple Inc.
“With these game changing announcements by Apple in its Keynote at WWDC 2012, the brand name was definitely held high once again. Apple scored its trophy announcing developer versions of the softwares revealed to be put under the test bench for Developers awaiting the start. The final version of iOS 6 would though be available in “Fall” along with the 5th Gen iPod Touch & 2nd Gen iPad+.
Apple has showcased its variance & elegance at this WWDC for sure, it is also destined to shoot sparks after its final releases. Some questions are still impending about happenings at WWDC 12 and even more minute details of its off shot products announced.“
