2012 has notably been the year of smart phones as the MWC just proved, however the showcase event promised us many powerful quad-cores. Eager and anxious techno geeks are well on their toes ready to jump on any quad core that arrives in the market. Well the waiting time may just be over for all the quad core fans from April onwards with the upcoming HTC ONE X.

Some of the other companies that announced quad-core sets are Huawei, Fujitsu, LG and ZTE. We might as well add Samsung and Sony later as we are sure they will come up with their quads this year by the 3rd quarter.

So let us review some of the quad-cores that are going to pop up this year.

#1 HTC ONE X  (releases April)

HTC showcased its most powerful phone the “ONE X” this MWC. There indeed is a lot to look forward to, from the 4.7 inch IPS HD display to the new UI HTC SENSE 4.0. This monster will be running an ICS (Android 4.0) and will be sporting a quad-core Tegra 3 processor from Nvidia. The hardware specs are top-notch and the new User Interface packs a lot of punch and takes the entire UI business to a whole new level with some brimful features. HTC has improved its camera module too and now its really FAST allowing you to hold the shutter key and snap away as many pictures you may desire.

#2 LG OPTIMUS 4X HD (releases June)

LG has been known for its innovations and this year it didnt surprise us with the launch of its quad core high end smartphone the OPTIMUS 4X. 4X means it packs a Tegra 3 processor but like the HTC ONE X it too comes with  a 1280X720 HD resolution and IPS display to provide justice to the high resolution screen. Fortunately LG has provided this giant with an equally capable battery of 2150 mAh capacity which is very sensible given the monster processor and display it needs to power.

    #3 ZTE ERA (releases July)

The ZTE Era proves that the Chinese manufacturers really want to take a piece of the smart-phone market by competing with established players.  ZTE Era is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor and comes with 1 GB of RAM. It sports a 4.3 inch qHD display and has a 8 MP camera. Featuring the ICS (Android 4.0) it is also the slimmest quad core out there. From what we listen this phone is going to be priced very nicely and will definitely give the mid range phones a shock let alone the high end ones.

#4 Huawei Ascend D quad (release July)

This Chinese manufacturer  startled everyone when it launched the quad-core phone and tablet  powered by it own processor at the MWC. Not only does Huawei provide an alternative to Tegra 3 processor but it also has made a fantastic phone ( a looker to be honest) . Huawei is using its own ARM based chipsets producing a very quick clock speed of 1.2 to 1.5 GHz called the K3V2. The phone has a 4.5 inch display and offers a true HD resolution of 1280X720 pixels. It will run the ICS and has already shown us that it does have a better performing GPU than the 12 GPU Cores of Tegra . We are all waiting with our fingers crossed for the pricing of this phone.

    #5 Fujitsu Arrows Ultra (Summer)

This is a pretty hard core phone from the Japanese Manufacturer and will hit Europe first, during the summer and eventually the US. Like any other quad cores this phone is also powered by a Tegra 3 processor. It has a 4.6 inch display, 13.1 MP camera and LTE connectivity, not to mention the Japanese toughness (Yup its water and dust proof too). The phone has  DLNA and HDMI capabilities for wireless and wired streaming. The HDMI is achieved trough a MHL port. So one can pump movies from the phone and watch in the HDTV.
