Intel has finally decided to join the mobile club. Today at MWC it announced the launch of new atom processors for phones and tablets. It has decided to launch 2 processors for the time being atom z2580 and the z2000.
The z2580 has 2 cores and it implements Hyper Threading to run 4 threads simultaneously. It is clocked at 1.3 GHz but with the Turbo-Boost technology it can over clock to 1.8 GHz. It is coupled with a powerful GPU too the PowerVR SGX544MP2 which is much faster than the one found in iphone 4s. Intel also have their own LTE capable modem that will work with atom z2580.
The second chipset z2000 is a low-end single core 1GHz processor without any support for Hyper Threading. It has been customized to suit the less powerful GPU PowerVR SGX540. The z2000 is more suited to power the low end phones.
The release of these 2 new processors is expected to happen by the mid of 2nd quarter.
