A brand new version of XBOX will be released next year which is claimed to be 6 times as powerful as the XBOX 360. We had reported earlier that the next XBOX will be powered by a Trinity-based AMD APU. But according to latest reports it will be powered by a series 6000 based GPU. It will be similar to Radeon HD 6670, with support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD video output. It is also touted to give 20% more performance than Nintendo’s Wii U.
Meanwhile other sources have speculations on the main processor which is thought to be a SoC developed by IBM and Global Foundries and is named Oban. XBOX 720, as it is named, will be powered by a PowerPC CPU along with a series 6000 GPU from AMD. It is also claimed that it will support Blu-Ray discs like Sony PS3 and also prevent used game discs to be used on new machines. But the mechanism of applying such a feature is not clear. Some have also reported that a new version of Kinect might be on the way too.
As per the release date, no definite date is known though it might be pushed until next year. No word on prices or final configuration is out yet. Hopefully it will launch around the same time Wii U launches, so we can enjoy a good battle on our controllers(or our hands, most probably!).
