NFC Technology which stands for Near Field Technology changes the way we share data in our day to day life. This is one of the most awaited technologies as far as current technical demand is concerned. Like many other techies I and one of my friends were discussing about some alternate technology to the existing technologies, by which we can easily share and transfer data’s.
Share your data on just one tap.WOW!!
Co-invented by NXP Semiconductors and Sony in 2002, NFC allows you to share, interconnect many devices at a time. The first commercial utilization has been a huge success; Marketing of Ra.One is one among them. Comparing it with Bluetooth, the ease of use and its varied application puts it way ahead of Bluetooth technology.”It is gesture based (touch-tap) process which makes it easier than the 2 to 3 steps process of bluetooth” as said by Ranjan Moses, Carrier Product Manager(India), Research in Motion(RIM).
A report by Gartner, a technology Research firm, listed the NFC in the “Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2012″. By 2015 as per data by In-Stat “NFC chip shipments are expected, to cross 1.2 billion marks”.
For your device to work, it should be embedded with NFC chips. The data transfer rate is 440 kilobits per second, when both the interacting devices are kept in close proximity(less than 4cm).
The Big players like Microsoft, Google, Nokia, Samsung, Visa, American Express and some other 140 odd companies are also a part of NFC Forum, an International body to promote NFC.
Apple’s new launch iPhone 4S is enabled with NFC. Other companies like Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry have also launched NFC handsets. The cost of NFC enabled handsets is little beyond 10,000 and hence a good economical option.
Utilities of NFC
- Mobile banking made easier through NFC.
- Sharing data’s like Audios, Videos, and other texts made easier.
- NFC can also be used as boarding Pass.
- Play Multiplayer games on a single tap.
