Android in the air with Boeing-we literally mean it.Boeing has selected Google’s Android platform to power up it’s in-flight entertainment system in the new Boeing 787 Dream-liner.
Well, if you happened to know nothing of 787 here’s a very small review. Boeing 787 Dreamliner is 210-290 passengers mid size long range commercial aircraft. Boeing claims it to be the most fuel efficient airliner and the first to use composite materials for most of it’s construction. And it has recieved it’s Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Agency certification in August,2011.
The new 787 Dreamliner aircraft will be equipped with Android based tablet devices ranging in screen size from 9 inches to up to 15.4 inches. While we have been keenly waiting for the gesture control and motion control systems to come for our dear PC’s we hear that the new Android based in-flight entertainment system for first class and business class passengers is going to be neither any old simple remote nor the new touch based systems but will feature hand gesture based technology.Apparently there will be bigger space in the aircraft and it would be cumbersome for the passengers to reach out for the screens to control them.We did say that’s more of a bit of luxury added with a pinch of innovation.
Don’t rush up to the Android Store now cos’ there are no apps to load and use in the new 787 Dreamliner. We seriously doubt if they would allow that.As of now, Boeing has received 800 orders for this new brand Dreamliners and it may take a while before you make that long flight just to see the new in-flight entertainment systems and even try out a few mods of your own, albeit in discretion.
Till then Stay Tuned, Be Gadgetic!
